Knee Strap Brace (Also Known as a Patellar Strap)

Knee Strap Brace (Also Known as a Patellar Strap)

Sandeep Saroya |

A knee strap brace is a minimalist support device typically worn just below the kneecap. Its primary function is to apply targeted compression to the patellar tendon, which runs from the bottom of the kneecap to the top of the shinbone. This compression helps to reduce strain on the tendon during movement and can relieve pain caused by overuse or inflammation.

This type of brace is most commonly used for conditions like patellar tendonitis (often referred to as jumper’s knee), Osgood-Schlatter disease, and general anterior knee pain. It is especially popular among athletes and active individuals who experience knee pain during high-impact activities like running or jumping.

Because it does not restrict movement and is very lightweight, a knee strap brace allows full range of motion while still offering localized support. However, it does not offer any structural support to the knee joint itself and is therefore not appropriate for treating ligament injuries, joint instability, or meniscus problems.
